Surangama complete meditation practice is a unique teaching by Living Buddha Dechan Jueren, and is a core practice for the disciples of this school. There are three meditations, each involes nine lessons: Five Buddhas Rotation, Inner Scan Introspection, and Four Arms Manjusri. Pandit is the only Vajracharya, who had received direct guidance and empowerment from Living Buddha, holding Surangama transmission in the West.
O Wondrous! Clear! Complete!
Upholding! Unmoved! Venerable One!
O Shurangama King,
The Embodiment of Wisdom, Compassion and Courage;
O King Of Kings,
A Rarity of This World,
Destroy my eons Upside Down Thinking;
So I don't have to go through eon's lifetimes
To obtain the True Realization.
One Surangama meditation takes 81 days to receive proper transmission, and the student must receive a completion abhiseka in order to connect with the last mudra. After this, 108 days daily practice to set a solid foundation. The students must commit at least 42 minutes meditating and about 21 minutes chanting each day. Skip one day, start over. Yes, Pandit had practiced this way under Living Buddha's direct supervision for about a year.
Anyone who is ordained as a Vajracharya in this school must complete the training in at least one Surangama meditation in order to better oneself to be a guru-guide with clear wisdom for one's disciples.
Pandit has observed over the past 13 years that some teachers of this school, lacking the gung ho training in Surangama, often have a tendency ending up with arrogance, and that many students, lacking the Surangama training, tends to go for the magic over the hardwork introspection. Reflect. Be humble!
