Good Sam Bodhisattva
by Zanze Pandit
Know yourself. Change yourself. Conquer yourself.
To know yourself, you must discern the two truths: ultimate truth and mundane truth. To change yourself, you must let go the two attachments: ego attachment and phenomenon attachment. To conquer yourself, you must overcome the two hindrances: the hindrance of mental affliction and the hindrance of what-you-think-you-know.
In other words, you must first have the right view.
To know yourself is to journey on the path of wisdom. To change yourself is to experience great compassion. To conquer yourself is to act with courage. You cannot claim that you have one while missing the other two.
In other words, you must have the right conduct.
Samantabhadra is the embodiment and conductor of courage.
Avalokiteshvara is the embodiment and conductor of compassion.
Manjushri is the embodiment and conductor of wisdom.
Good SAM is the ideal of the Great Bodhisattva.
